Home Decor According to Your Zodiac Sign

Astrology is a tool that allows us to gain a deeper understanding of ourselves, and others. You can apply the defining characteristics of your zodiac sign to your dating life, your career, communication style, overall vibe and so much more. Astrology has helped me connect with my intuition when it comes to other people. As a Pisces sun empath, I’m hypersensitive to people’s moods and emotions. I struggle with boundaries and not taking things personally. So when I started getting into astrology, it was like learning a new language. With astrology I can examine a situation and give it symbolic context, rather than have an immediate emotional response. For example, when my Leo friend puts on a major theatrical display in public, I’m no longer embarrassed to be dragged along for the ride. I understand his need to be in the spotlight and I know that when he gets the attention he craves, he’s equally generous with others. Most people know their sun sign (“Oh, I’m a Scorpio”), but there’s so much more to it. If you’ve never looked at your birth chart, you can do it for free online. There’s a lot of great sites that offer interpretations of every planet and house you occupy. But the way I like to explain it is - if you’re looking at a portrait of yourself in a gallery, your sun sign represents the broad strokes and outlines of who you are. Your rising sign represents the first impression that is formed when you look at the portrait, based on its color and artistic style. And your moon sign represents the hidden depths behind the eyes, the shadows and emotions that are revealed when you examine the portrait up close. If you want to have a more nuanced understanding of astrology, I’d recommend learning about your sun, rising and moon signs. I use this information for Dwellness, constantly. When it comes to how I decorate your home, your sun sign isn’t always going to match your design style. You probably are drawn to the aesthetic of your sun sign, entertain like your rising sign and blow off steam like your moon sign.

Below is an introduction to decorating tips for each sun sign! Work with me to gain further insight.

ARIES

Create a designated work space where you can focus your fiery energy! Having a home office or a dedicated table for paying bills, working on projects and getting sh%t done is important for an Aries. Make sure it’s in an area with really good light, and try decorating with bold colors or metallics to keep your spark alive.

TAURUS

Taurus are invested in the comfort and style of their furniture - so go vintage! Invest in a piece with quality craftsmanship and a striking design, so you can enjoy it for many years to come, like a fine wine.

GEMINI

Such a spontaneous air sign can’t keep a signature style for very long, so throw caution to the wind when it comes to trying design trends. Air on the side of creative stimulation - surround yourself with interesting pieces of art and coffee table books, and make sure you have a central place to swap ideas with friends and loved ones!

CANCER

The coziest water sign in the zodiac, your home will feel welcoming to almost everyone. Focus on nostalgic touches in your home, such as a gallery wall or a featured family heirloom.

LEO

Let your lion’s den roar with playful accents and royal sensibilities. Put something eye-catching in a central part of the home, like a neon sign or gold mirror.

VIRGO

Virgos have an eye for details, so make sure there’s a place for everything. But organization systems don’t have to be boring - check out one of my favorite accounts @thehomeedit for inspiration!

LIBRA

People are drawn to your stylish ways, so make sure your house is an extension of all that is lovely about you! Try incorporating fashion into your design with a framed street-style photograph or decorating with a vintage statement piece.

SCORPIO

Keep the mystery alive by creating intimate spaces in your home that feature rich colors, lush fabrics and lots of candles. If anyone needs blackout curtains and a projector in their bedroom, it’s you.

SAGITTARIUS

Your free-spirited, outdoorsy vibes should be reflected in a home that’s as eclectic and worldly as you are. You’ll thrive if your space incorporates all the elements - throw open the windows, grow some indoor plants, light plenty of candles and set up a Berkey water filter.

CAPRICORN

You value well-made, impressive pieces. Sometimes traditional and stately, sometimes modern and imposing. Capricorns like to recharge with a great view, so set up a chair you love by the window, and think up your next great idea.

AQUARIUS

Your home should be a breath of fresh air. Try swapping any outdated products for eco-friendly versions, and invest in a nice essential oil diffuser!

PISCES

Pisces tend to create very personal home environments where they can recharge and reflect. Keep things dreamy and ethereal with natural elements inspired by the ocean.
